Welcome to Woolysbylouise.
I started knitting and crocheting as a hobby, making garments for myself and to give as gifts. I was asked to make items for people to give as gifts themselves so I've launched this website to make my items available to a wider audience..........
I like to think of my items as investments. The yarns are produced by farmers and producers investing their time, expertise and moreover their care, nurturing the land, plants and animals that produce the yarns I use. I then invest my time creating them. It's fair to say, I invest my heart and soul into the items too as I adore making them!
With that in mind I use high quality, natural yarns to ensure items not only look and feel wonderful, but they have had a minimal impact on the environment and will stand the test of time. Throws, shawls, wraps, presentation blankets for prams, cots and Christenings, will hopefully be heirlooms and 'fast fashion' is anathema to me and I hope to you too.
Natural fibres are not only sustainable therefore better for nature, they are kind to the skin. This is particularly important for babies, toddlers and anyone with sensitive skin or conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. Cotton, linen and silk are all comfortable on sensitive skins whilst they are also warm in winter and cool in summer. I also use wools, cashmere, alpaca, yak, merino, mohair, tweed and hemp.
So, what do I make?
Pretty much anything I care to draft a design for.......
Clothing: jumpers, sweaters, pullovers, cardigans, tank tops, jackets, coats, tops, vests, dresses, capes, waistcoats, ponchos
Accessories: wooly hats, beanies, bobble hats, berets, cowls, wraps, shawls, gloves, mittens, wrist warmers, boot-toppers, leg warmers, bags, corsages
Homewares: cushions, throws, blankets, table runners, coasters, place mats, napkin rings, washcloths, utility bags
Bridal: shawl, wrap, bolero jacket, gloves, mittens, bags
Babies: As above but also, blankets for presentation, prams, cots, sleeping bags, toy holders
Finally, I generally source buttons, ribbons and fastenings from a fabulous Aladdin's cave of a stall on Blackheath Market which means I'm supporting local tradespeople. Alas, I cannot do the same for yarn as there are no quality yarn providers locally.
I hope you enjoy perusing my website and please email if you have any questions or suggestions as this is my first attempt. I shall endeavour to add items regularly but when it's not raining I tend to be on a tennis court!
